KOREAN CONGREGATION
'Prayer as a priority' would correctly describe the activities of the Korean language congregation. In fact, the word "enthusiasm" itself would be an understatement when you consider that congregation members make it a point to meet every day at the church building at five in the morning for a time of prayer. And they have been doing this, continually, for the past eighteen years!

The history of the Korean congregation goes back to the mid-seventies, when many large Korean companies were invited in building much of the country's infrastructure. Hyundai Construction and Young Jin Company, for example, brought with them large numbers of Korean workers to help in the construction work. In December 1975, Hyundai Construction personnel began having regular worship services at their camps. Similarly, in February 1977, the personnel at Young Jin Company started their own worship services at their camps. But in 1982, both groups merged and began worshipping together.

Finally, as Pastor Young Goo Lee explained, on 15 October 1982, the Korean Congregation was officially incorporated as a regular member congregation of the National Evangelical Church. "Joining the fellowship of NEC has been a very happy development for us," the Pastor said. "We always participate, along with other member congregations in the Combined Worship Services of the National Evangelical Church on Christmas, New Year, Good Friday and Easter."

The first pastor of the Korean Congregation, Rev. Choi Su Young , arrived in Bahrain in 1983 and served till 1989 after which, Pastor Jung Hung Nam came to Bahrain. He served the congregation till 1993 when Pastor Hu Mong Ho arrived. After his departure, Pastor Young Goo Lee joined in 1999 and continues ministering the congregation at present.

Although the number of Korean people in Bahrain has reduced considerably and this has affected the strength of the congregation, nevertheless, they are completely focused on God's blessings and directions for the future.
